The Chainsmokers are your Grammy Award winning duo for Best Dance Recording category. They are a powerhouse duo in the Electropop music genre, and they are authors and producers of multiple chart toppers in the mainstream, pop music scene.
The Chainsmokers are composed of two people, and they are in one American DJ Persona. The Chainsmokers are composed of the perfect pair up of Andrew Taggart and Alex Pall – and back in 2014 they got their very first chart topper – a song titled “#Selfie”. From then on they went from taking over New York, to taking over the world with their hype, addictive and high energy electro songs.
One half of the Chainsmokers is Alex Pall and he is one of the DJs. Sidenote: remember some of the videos circulating around the internet around that features very young talent? Alex Pall is one of those young talents – he has been practicing disk jockeying since he was a young boy and he got his name around in a little area and he got a few jobs and gigs with it. It was work that he was passionate about – a balance between work and fun. Being in New York, he was iffy about it at first – pursuing your passion as an official job, but then time and effort got him through and he realized that producing dance music is his calling. He was working at an art studio and gallery at the time and he took his shot with his manager to ask if he had any connections in the music production industry -and there he met Drew, and they immediately sparked it up and began working together. Alex Pall then quit his job to follow his dream – and the rest was history.
Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart’s story is definitely one to follow. One can only dream of making it so far in following their heart and passion – as cliche it may sound, always follow your heart. They did what made them happy and happiness definitely followed them. Alex Pall took a risk, and it definitely paid off – and he and Andrew Taggart really deserves what they have right now.
The Chainsmokers were formed when Alex Pall and Andrew “Drew” Taggart met in 2012. They were introduced by their mutual friend and current band manager Adam Alpert, who know both men were looking for a partner for their music. Much to no one’s surprise, the two hit it off and formed a fast friendship that led to the Chainsmokers playing their first show in 2014 at Terminal 5 in New York, opining for Timeflies. After that gig the rest, as they say, was history, as the dup began playing regular live shows, releasing albums and singles, and hitting #1 on Billboard’s Dance/Electronic and Top 200 Charts with their first full-length album, “Memories…Do Not Open.”
In-between EPs and albums, the Chainsmokers release many singles that can be downloaded for free at their official website. In late July they released their most recent of these singles, “Side Effects”, featuring vocals by friend of the band Emily Warren. Warren has collaborated with the Chainsmokers several times before, and the duo says they truly love working with her. They speak about how effortless the collaborations with Warren are, with Pall and Taggart saying she is an intelligent, compassionate and well-educated musician that they enjoy working with.
“Side Effects” is an up-tempo, disco influenced song. Its upbeat flow is a departure from the Chainsmokers’ recent releases, most of which were written during winter. The season impacts the feelings the duo have at any given time, and their music is written to be a reflection of these feelings as well as their experiences at the time. Calling “Side Effects” a “summer banger”, the two wanted a song that would get people excited and energetic for the summer season.
The Chainsmokers perform live shows on a regular basis all across the country. They have evolved from “two guys behind a turntable” to having many elements of a traditional live band on stage with them. They especially like the contributions made by their drummers. Taggart has put effort into singing live before a crowd, something he wasn’t too terribly comfortable with only a year ago.
The music industry requires a certain level of creativity to be successful. The Chainsmokers who work in the music industry on the production and DJing side of things have created a new identity for themselves. Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart are the duo that makes up the Chainsmokers. On their new single, Taggart is singing instead of them being in the background with DJing. Many wouldn’t have expected to see this type of work from the duo. They have managed to keep people on their toes with the music that they released.
Alex Pall is an original member of the Chainsmokers. Pall was a DJ on the side and eventually developed a love for it. He never thought that being a DJ would be his full-time job. It was always more of a hobby for him. Pall had been DJing all over New York. Music began to take over his life before he committed to be a DJ as a career. Pall met Taggart after he and the manager were looking for someone to take the place of the person that was leaving the duo. When Pall and Taggart met, they were instantly connected. They shared what they were working on and made magic when they were in the studio together which was every day. Alex Pall was working with someone that was just as passionate about DJing as he was.
Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart have been able to create a name for themselves by being willing to work and learn. Pall knew a lot about DJing, but he acknowledged that there were things that he still did not know. They have committed the art that they make in expressing themselves as real human beings who have feelings and emotions. Most music now expresses negative things like drugs. Pall and Taggart were aware that they did not want to be a part of that. They wanted their audience to be able to relate to them on a more intimate level. Pall understands that people can connect with the music that they make because no one is writing their songs for them.
