Waiakea Water Among the Most Sustainable Water Brands in the World

Waiakea Water is a brand of bottled water. It is sourced from Hawaii, and the brand is taking the cultural pillars of the Hawaiian people very seriously. In fact, Waiakea Water is one of the first in the world to receive the certificate among other premium bottled water brands.

The bottle of Waiakea is made of 100% RPET. That stands for recycled polyethylene terephthalate. It is the kind of plastic that is recycled post- consumerism. It has high advantages in terms of environmental conscientiousness as using this plastic serves to reduce waste. Other benefits of using 100% RPET bottles is that they need less energy and water to manufacture. It uses up to 85 percent less energy and up to 90 percent less water. Not only that, but it reduces the emissions of carbon by up to 90 percent.

One of the most significant projects that the Waiakea brand is working on is in regard of their bottles. While using 100% RPET is excellent, the brand wants to set the bar higher and use fully recyclable bio polymers. That means that the bottle will have an end of life and it will degrade biologically unlike conventional plastics.

The water of Waiakea is sourced from the Mauna Loa volcano. It comes from the eastern base of the volcano. It is a highly renewable source. Every year, it renews with 200 inches of snow melt and pure rainwater. Up to 393 million gallons can be sourced from the pool each day. Waikaea uses less than one percent of that vast number, which means that its source of water is highly sustainable and it does not noticeably reduce the water in the area.
