Coming from a middle-classed family himself, Hussain Sajwani is well groomed about the struggles that come along with growing up with no silver lining. In an article on PR Newswire, it was started back in 1989. Three churches got together and started a soup kitchen. The local congregations were the ones who started it all. Over the years, students and businesses began to get involved. Local community groups also got involved. Through time and donations, Elijah’s Promise has really done a lot of good for the area of New Brunswick, New Jersey.

In 1997, Sam and the other founders started a culinary program. This program offers educational tools and skills for those looking to learn more about cooking and food. The name comes from Elijah in the Bible. He stayed with a widow during a time a severe famine. The widow replies that she only has food for one meal. Elijah makes her a promise. He states that if she lets him stay with her, her pantry will never be empty. She agrees and he makes good mn his promise to her. She never goes without flour or anything else.
